BPM: Was there anyone in your career that recognized your talent and helped to cultivate it?
FPB: Yes, I had a Language Arts teacher that loved my creative stories that were required for weekly assignments in school. She encouraged me to journal during middle school to keep up with my writings.

BPM: How do you stay on top of your game professionally in the publishing industry?
FPB: Being that I am new to the game of writing, editing and publishing, I LISTEN, AND OBSERVE the mistakes that have been made and own up to them and I make sure that I don’t repeat them. I use these things as learning tools. So I basically never ever stop learning from anyone.

BPM: Tell us about your most recent work. Available on Nook and Kindle?
FPB: My most recent work is “Miami Beat: The Secret Society” which is a suspense novel based around a Police Department, and some of the individuals who work within and around that department. The characters come to life when you get engrossed in my book. It is available on Nook and Kindle as well as Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

BPM: Give us some insight on your main characters. What makes each one so special?
FPB: My main characters are Sidney Stevens, who is a psychologist that deals with troubled police officers, as well as outside civilians that are first responders. There is also Major Marcus Mystic, who is in charge of the Police Department that is involved with issues that causes this to be suspenseful.

Officer Arturo Garcia, who use to be Sidney Steven’s supervisor when she was a young Police Explorer, and then you have Spencer MacIntyre, who is Sidney’s best friend, and a personal trainer to a lot of the members of the Police Department.

With the main characters mentioned, they are connected with each other, and little do they know that it’s through murder, sex, and money! They each play an integral part for each other to survive this “Secret Society” so they are all special in their own way, but will they all come out unscathed?

BPM: Is there a specific place/space that you find inspiration in?
FPB: I find my inspiration while sitting by the pool. I write from her back yard, listening to the water fall.

BPM: What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
FPB: I enjoy doing the evil things, breaking the law and living on the edge. Being that I have had to be a law abiding citizen for my entire Law Enforcement career, it felt sooooo good to “just do it!”

BPM: How much planning goes into writing a book? How long does it take to complete one of your books?
FPB: I am a brand new author that had no experience in writing a book, but when I decided to create my book, I had to bring all of my ideas that were written down on paper together and piece it into something legible, and add the new thoughts onto that and shape it into something that made sense. When you wake up and read what you have, you want to change it again and again.

Planning, organization and preparation are a must. I think once you get organized and decide to go with a final draft, three to four months out, you should have a final product that is ready for editing and publishing. For my book, it was a 4 to 5 month process.

BPM: What advice would you give aspiring writers that would help them finish a project?
FPB: Find someone that is well seasoned in the field of writing, editing, and publishing, and become a sponge. If this is something that you plan on doing more than once, learn all you can from someone who has made this their passion.

BPM: Was there an early experience where you learned that the written word has power?
FPB: No, there was no experience, just something that was instilled in me by my parents.

BPM: How has writing impacted your life?
FPB: I have been able to express myself in many different ways through writing under many disguises. Things I may have always wanted to say but may have not mustered up the nerve to open up, I was able to write it and make an even bigger impact on paper, so it helped me as a person tremendously, writing actually became my voice.

BPM: What does literary success look like to you?
FPB: Literary success to me is seeing my books everywhere, on social media, bookstores, websites, and hearing my characters names as if they were your actual friends, being talked about. Having people request another book from me. Rave reviews, and your name on the tips of avid readers tongues.

BPM: What are the three most effective tools for sharing your books with the world?
FPB: Social media, word of mouth and phenomenal book clubs.

BPM: Share some of your writing goals. What projects are you working on at the present?
FPB: My goals are to get as many followers as I can to create a “Secret Society” and capture them into the literary world of the “Miami Beat”. I am currently working on book two of “Miami Beat: The Secret Society” Bringing my goal closer to a reality with this book, becoming a household name.
